Things I don't miss

I just realized it's been a month since I blogged. And to consider I once thought of starting up a reviews and giveaway blog. No way. It's funny how easily you can give up something that used to just suck you in.

Things that I have given up recently that I don't really miss:
  1. tv. We're not watching much tv these days. Oh, we PVR for a later date, but even a lot of the stuff we're recording we're just not interested in watching right now. I think Castle and the Mentalist are the ones we're really watching every week right now, and everything else can wait.
  2. More specifically - American Idol. I admit that the new judges threw me off, although Mom assures me that they are doing an excellent job. But I really didn't want the 2-3 night a week committment to watch this show this year, so I'm not. I kind of miss it, but at the same time and not really.
  3. Facebook. I am spending nil time on facebook. I am not actively playing any games - although I started a Cityville so my friends can get an extra neighbour, but I have not even gone so far as to see how it works. I imagine a lot like Farmville, which I once loved. I don't miss that either.
  4. My blogs. I still follow a bunch of stuff as I still like to try and win things. Most recently (last week) at $25 gift card from Chapters. I already have some credit on Chapters and am seriously considering ordering the Cities and Knights expansion for Settlers of Catan.
  5. My weight. ha ha ha... Yeah so it's been 5 weeks I've been on WW and it is going well! I had one week where I went up .4, but over all I am down 8.6 and am really thrilled with how I am doing. I am not finding it hard at all to follow the new Points Plus program and don't really feel like I am missing out much on food stuff. Okay tonight I super wanted a nice big hamburger and home made deep fried french fries. But I didn't. We had macos like we planned (tacos made with veggie ground round). Duncan ate 3 tacos!! Growing much?
Things I am enjoying as I am no longer doing those things:
  1. Time with Bill and the kids. Duh. Evenings are fun. Last night we moved the art desk that Chris and Ronnie gave us a while back into my craft room. I taped some paper down, pulled out the paints and both kids had a blast! Was it messy? Yep. Did they need baths after? Yep. But what's the point in having a craft room if it isn't going to get messy?
  2. Swimming. This kind of goes with the spending more time with the kids theme. Duncan has swimming 2x/week and for $2 each we get to go while he has lessons, so we've all been going together. Cordie loves it. Duncan loves it. I swam a few laps the other day. I am out of shape!! But you know, I'm doing something about it, so not beating myself up there.
  3. Quilting. As most evenings we don't feel like watching tv, I wander into my lovely craft room and, well, craft. Sunday I finished the top to Cordie's quilt I've been meaning to get to for some time now. I love it! It's all blocks given by my quilty friends online, and I just love it. I need some backing fabric for it. I'll post pictures when it's done. And I also started a quilt for Nikki who is due in one month now.
Oh, one thing I miss that I can't seem to get enough of: sleep. It's bed time. Good night!

Welcome to 2009

Happy new Year friends! I hope this finds you in good health. As far as I know, most of you are doing well, so I hope that's true!

We're doing good here. Duncan got over his stomach bug and had an excellent appetite today, although is still very tired. That could have something to do with the fact that he's a growing boy though. It's going to be really tough to start getting him back up early next Monday, but that's only for 3 months, so we can do it.

New Year Eve was fantastic. We had Chris and Ronnie and the kids over and Theresa. The girls sat around the kitchen table and chatted and nibbled on food, and the boys played video games in the living room. Duncan had a lot of fun, but still went to bed around a normal time. This was good b/c I didn't want to pull out the bad for him food until he was down b/c I knew his stomach was probably still off and cheezies wouldn't sit too well. We had picked up this Bingo set with a roller cage for the balls and everything, so we played Bingo until almost mid night, which was a total hoot.

Today was really laid back and quiet. We really just vegged around the house. Played with Duncan, puttered around. I've been getting the itch to quilt but all my stuff is in storage, so I had a really bright idea. I knew Theresa was doing some quilting this afternoon (I'm thrilled I have a friend so nearby who is a quilter now!) and I had some blocks from the 2008 shop hop, so I took them over there and used her rotary cutter and cutting board and cut some pieces. I have my machine, so at least I should be able to piece together a few blocks.

We'll be taking out stuff out of storage soon. We've taken our place off the market officially. It didn't pan out - oh well. It would have been fun had it worked out, however I'm content to stay. We'll look at our house options again in 2010 or 2011 after I'm back to work. The Lord has provided us with a perfect roof over our heads, and although we have a few clutter issues, we bought this place saying we would live here about 10 years or so, and it be enough for a few kids, so we're still very much on track with that.

What else is going on... we were going to go to the Tulalip Casino this past Tuesday but Duncan got so sick, so we had to change our plans. Our reservation was no cancellation, so we would have lost the money, but on a whim I called the hotel and explained our situation and the awesome girl there, Jessica, helped us out, and it looks like we're now going next Friday for the night. Ronnie is taking Duncan. So that should be a fun little get away. Likely our last one for a while!

Alright, the timer just went off for dinner, so I'll send this off. I love you all (I'm pretty sure) and wish you the Lord's blessings in this coming year.

Misc. for Monday

Tanya - I totally forgot all the clothes you had along with you on Saturday to return to me. Sorry! This just means we need to get together again soon so I can take them off your hands.

I got a Wii Fit! Finally. This was actually my Mother's Day gift but we couldn't find one. I got the last one at SuperStore, so quite happy. Now I need to pull it out of the box and, gasp, use it.

Yesterday afternoon we put Duncan down for a nap and so I thought "ah ha, I'll have a few hours to quilt for once!" Yeah, not so much. He did not want to sleep, so I had everything pulled out, iron warmed up, even cut 5 whole strips of fabric, and had to pack it all away b/c there is no quilting when little boys are up.

Speaking of little boys, he was such a trooper this morning. He's been having a hard time adjusting going back to day care after vacation, so when we were ready to go he started to cry. I just said to him "You need to be a big boy and stop crying." And he did! I had to remind him a few times going over there, but with tears in his eyes, and a trembling lip I handed him over with no crying at all. He is such a sweet soul.

Freecycle Rocks! (and other things)

Freecycle is the best! Okay, I know a lot of people already know this, but if you haven't, and you don't mind used items, check out your local freecycle group.

This weekend I received both the card game "Killer Bunnies" which Chris has been wanting to play, and I responded to a post for "Quilting fabric, craft books, and a quilting frame". So on the way out to John and Amy's yesterday we stopped to pick up the quilting stuff, and it was loads of fabric! Bill had to stop me from going through it all with glee right there in the people's driveway. I'm attaching pictures, but I just need to say I am so tickled by this. A quilter can never have too much fabric in her stash (especially when it's free!), despite what her husband (Bill) might say *grin*.

On that note, I am freecycling a pair of lazy boy recliner/love seat type chairs. I'm attaching a picture. If you want them, you need to come get them, but they need to go soon. Mom and Dad are redoing their bedroom (it's going to look awesome!) and my piano no longer fits, so after all these years the piano is coming home. It needs a lot of work, but since it needs to sit here for about a month 1st, we'll cross that bridge when we get there. And for those people wondering, no I don't really play the piano. I like to fiddle on it, but I don't perform :) But Bill wants to learn and we hope Duncan will be interested too.
